Disaster! in through the out door heavy box set arrived damaged, they will only pay £8 postage for me to return it, it will cost more than that to send it to somewhere in the uk, any suggestions people? What really pisses me off is the phycial graffiti box came in a custom made mailer with foam spacers around the edge, in through the out door was look in an over sized box with no protection GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

OK appart from the fact that I left it right til the last minute and did not really consider the best way to group my orders (should have paid more attention to the values) do anyone know how amazon.de will react if i return one of the items for a refund? If i bought 3 x £30 items or equivalent and returned one would there be any refund? if i bought a batch of 3 items that were £50 £30 and £10 and returned the £50 record how much would they refund?

      In my experience they wouldn’t refund you if you send one item of three with the same price back, because then you still buy two cds for the same amount that you had been charged to during the 3for2-offer. Your second example will be handled the same way, so for the example you wrote you would get a GBP 40 refund ((50+30)-(30+10).

  7. Well, glad that’s over. Fortunately The Boss was out when the first two boxes arrived, so the albums / SDE’s have been absorbed into the collection and the boxes are safely in the boot of my car for recycling. Just one more parcel to sneak in and I am safe.

    Only one disaster…and it brings up a good point about returning to a foreign country if things do not go right.

    The Hippopotamus “2LP Picture disc” arrived as an unsealed Black vinyl copy in a terrible state with dirty / dusty vinyl and what looks like a glue rip to the front cover. Other than sending Rolf Harris’s Greatest Hits they couldn’t have got it more wrong.

    Has anyone any experience of returns to a foreign Amazon? Admittedly this is the first and only error I have had from AmIt, AmFr, AmEs or AmDe in dozens of orders.

    Do you have to post it back to Germany as in all likelihood it arrived from Dunfermline, Scotland anyway?

    1. Sorted, the set up seems the same with an immediate return phone call, conducted entirely in perfect English (from the lady at the end of the ‘phone anyway). They will send a new Hippopotamus Pic Disc and I get to keep the old Black Vinyl one which I am sure will clean up nicely for playing and the beautiful Picture Disc can go on my wall. Perfect result.

  8. Christian, that’s interesting – the first batch of Abbey Road half-speed masters included Abba’s Arrival at 2x45rpm, which was not reissued as a single 33rpm. The Eno 2x45rpm do sound great, though!

  10. Thanks Paul. Tried hard to resist but the combo of the deluxe Radiohead Moon Shaped Pool, Sgt Pepper’s super deluxe with Airborne vinyl collection all staring at me from the final Amazon order screen was too powerful.

    I did check with a mate who assured me I was simply delaying the inevitable by hovering over the final purchase button. Whether he can resist the huge Metallica boxset frenzy made possible from this offer which I thoughtfully pointed out to him, I shall find out tomorrow.

  13. Thanks Paul youve cost me 1400 dollars in the last week still…netted George Harrison vinyl box and Bon Jovi vinyl box for 170 pounds each. Then 3 g or 2 on Germany netted the Bright Eyes vinyl box and Kinks mono box and took Mccartney Flowers super deluxe for free all less tax then just went 12 cd boxes on 3 for 2 less tax..all the Scorpions deluxes Keith Jarrett anfels box Lloyd cole new york box Kraftwerk 3d cd box Human League 3cdplusdvd box and David Gilmour pompeio super deluxe.   15. Despite advertising it as being included in the 3 for 2 purchase, Amazon de have confirmed they will not honour a deal that includes Kraftwerk 3D vinyl.

    Whats the legal position on this?

      1. Own my own retail companies.
        If I advertised a 3 for 2 offer, then withdrew a product a customer ordered, I’d be falling over myself to ensure they remained happy by offering an alternative.
        Its customer relations.

        So they can whistle on the Bowie box sets I ordered, and be confident I wont be tempted into anymore of their deals that dont exist when you order them as they advertised.

  19. Just a word of advice for USA buyers. Check to see what the third party sellers on Amazon.com are selling the items for. I bought 3 boxes (U2, Joshua Box, The Verve Urban Box and Underworld Beaucoup box). The total after discount, shipping, taking out VAT and conversion to USD was $188. If I go to the third party sellers on Amazon.com I will pay $196 for the same 3 box sets. Since all 3 of the boxsets are quite new, they will lower in price going forward and I would probably be able to get them for less than $188 in total.

    I also bought other smaller boxsets and they came out about $30 cheaper than if I order them from third party sellers on Amazon.com (Daf Box Set, Prince Purple SDE and Pet Shop Boys Nightlife further Listening). So it is possible to save but you have to pay attention and the research to see where you come out ahead.

    I also bought the 3 Deluxe China Crisis albums and paid $33. If I were to buy them from third party sellers on Amazon.com right now it’s expensive because some of them are still listed as imports but in a few weeks the 2cd versions will be about $10 and The 3cd is already $14 now so that would total $46 including shipping. So also in this case I’m getting out ahead.

    It seems the more expensive (and bigger) the box sets, the less advantageous this deal is if you are in the USA. Just a heads up!

    Site didn’t take off cheapest album (Kraftwerk) so cancelled the lot.
    Tried again, still no luck.

    1. I see you’re having problems Steve Edwards. I just ran your selections through to the invoice page and it worked just fine for me. I notice the Kraftwerk English vinyl is not in the promotion though. Just the German version. I expect you are checking that each item you select IS in the promotion? Not everything is, although even niche products that I have looked at are.

  30. Picked up three Bear Family boxes. The Bristol Sessions, Johnson City Sessions, Knoxville Sessions. I was going to buy the Bristol box anyway, but the promotion effectively reduced the other two to £47 each. And at that price, it would have been an offence NOT to buy. I see lots of people might have trouble with their spouse over this offer. Take a tip from me and just absorb the records into your collections quietly. My other half will just think Im playing the same old rubbish. She won’t know it’s new rubbish!

  38. My choice has been the 2nd and 3rd Bowie sets plus the Lou Reed RCA & Arista box. 41 cds 247€ delivered. Fela Kuti’s complete 30cd+dvd was also a contender, but finally went for Lou.

  39. Picked up Beaucoup Fish from Underworld, U2 Joshua Box and Verve Urban Box in the first order. Then in the next order the three China Crisis reissues and then in the third order the new DAF Box, Prince Purple SDE and the remaining Pet Shop Boys Further Listening I hadnt bought yet. Good promo.
    I also wanted to get the Flowers In The Dirt box from Paul McCartney together with the 2 Bowie boxes but I simply cannot pull the lever on that Macca box. It’s so ridiculously expensive that even with this promo I feel massively ripped off. I also don’t really need the Bowie boxes as I have all the individual Ryko discs with all bonus tracks. No need to spend all that money on stuff I already have, only the sound is slightly better. So decided against that. The only reason I want that Macca box is because I bought Paul’s interview booklet. Apparently the completist in me is starting to move into OCD territory. I would never listen to that box as Im not a Macca fan at all.
    The dollar vs Euro exchange rate is also quite bad at the moment. Some of these boxes are so much more expensive on Amazon Germany that even with the promo I don’t save all that much after shipping and conversion to Dollars. Yes VAT is taken out but the numbers are still so so. Im still coming out ahead but not as much as I had expected.

  40. 185 dollars delivered to the USA for Hysteria Super Deluxe, the Complete Dave Brubeck, and the Kris Kristofferson boxes. It doesn’t get more across the board than that!! On Amazon US this would have cost me over 300 dollars easy!

Do they average the total price out over the three items as they ship or do they charge at full price for two meaning it would only be when the order is fully complete do you actually achieve the discount by getting that third one free?

    1. Try the Underworld boxes. They are excellent. Dubnobassformyheadman, Secon Toughest In The Infants and Beaucoup Fish. All 3 boxes are cd only, no vinyl no dvd nonsense. High quality electronic music in my book.

    On top of yesterdays, when I had already promised I wouldn’t just found out they still had a Slade Box Set.
    So When Slade Ruled…., Def Leppard Hysteria and Verve 6LP Urban Hymns for £63 each including delivery.
    I want the Phil Collins Singles Box for 38 Euro, but can’t think of two other similarly priced items to go with it. has anybody else gone for this and what did you get to make it up to three? I was thinking Gilmour CD / BD? But what else?

      1. Good shout.
        Collins singles, 4 x Eno half speed and Sparks Hippo PD for £120 delivered. That’s £20 each. Which is a bargain any way up and I think even cheaper than the original Bundle offer for the Eno half speeds.

        I already have the Springsteen Ties that bind box from the last Deal alert and agree it is superb.

  61. I just succumbed to a couple of the Bowie and the complete Beatles set, (which I always wanted but never took the plunge) so saved 100 euros.

    Incidentally, the excellent complete John Mellencamp set of 17 remastered albums is on the German site at only 69 euros.
    It’s not in the 3 for 2 deal and you don’t get books/demos etc but it sounds great and half amazon UK price.

  62. Do Amazon charge duty fees extra when ordering from country outside Germany, to be paid to the courier at the time of delivery or is it included in the price displayed at the dite?

    1. If you are within the EU then there are no extra fees due, but if you are outside the EU then, yes, import fees of some kind would probably be due, although that sort of thing is a bit hit and miss

  79. Only interesting if you purchase 3 items of about the same value and do not mix box sets and single CD’s in a same order as it will deduct the 2 lowest priced items.
    I purchased 3 vinyl box sets (The Verve, Ryan Adams and David Gilmour), 3 LP’s (2 reissued Veils LP’s and Pink Floyd’s The Wall) and 3 single CD’s (among others Benny Andersson’s Piano CD and the new Kitty Daisy & Lewis).

    … since I was looking around just the other day, I couldn’t help notice that the prices of the sets I looked at (classical) were ramped up considerably for this sale, so beware.

    Don’t you hate it when you quickly find two items that you want and then you struggle to find a third item for a similar price.

    Finally managed to bag three items around the £85 mark so an average price £56.67 for each item with the discount.

    A good saving on recent U2 and Def Leppard box sets. A pity I pre-ordered the latest Bowie Box Set which arrived this morning otherwise that would have been my third choice.

    1. I got this as well. Coincidentally spotted it had reduced to £39.99 on UK site and added it to my basket yesterday awaiting today’s new releases. Cheapest before was around £50.       I guess it doesn’t work because you ordered the Per Gessle box from an Amazon Marketplace seller (Music-Shop for 85,46 €). The Amazon price is 86,61 € and when you put it in your order it will work.

    The trick to this, is as many will pick up on is to be careful what you group together. It’s worth it if you can group together three similarly priced items. You have to do it in groups of three or six.

    I have just bought the Red Vinyl Huey Lewis Collected, the Green Vinyl Level 42 Collected and Man on the Rocks by Mike Oldfield for £56 delivered. So about £18.50 per set to the door and I am chuffed. Thanks Paul…..

  108. I saw this literally seconds after I took delivery of my ANCIANT CD and vinyl sets. And now I’m pondering returning them to Amazon unopened, and ordering them again from Amazon Germany, in order to receive another €100 box set completely free.

    Still, at least I saw the offer before I’d opened my Bowie box sets. Thank you Paul!!!!
