Deal alert / Velvet Underground 6-disc super deluxe box set

vu_deal2

Out next monday, the six-disc Velvet Underground super deluxe edition box set has dropped to a price on Amazon UK that requires a will of steel to not pull the trigger and place an order.

The box set which doubles the number of discs offered in last year’s White Light/White Heat box contains two different stereo mixes of the album (including Lou Reed’s Closet Mix), a promo mono mix, loads of unreleased session tracks and a wealth of live tracks many of which have never been issued. This comes as a stylish case-bound book and can be pre-ordered at the time of writing for a barely credible £35!

Prices have been raised now, but Spanish Amazon may be interesting also for European customers. Some time ago I preordered this box set for just €43. So keep a close watch.

Adey

I have noticed the past couple of years that amazon raises prices in the run up to christmas for boxsets etc. as they know people will start to panic buy

John

Thanks Bill.

Richard Christian

This one is covered by Amazon’s price guarantee so I assume anyone with a pre order before the price dropped to £35 should get it at that price regardless of what it goes back up to. If so I’ll be happy.

John

I know I could email Amazon, but it’s probably quicker and easier to ask the knowledgeable readers of Super Deluxe Edition.

I pre-ordered this a month ago when it was £50. The price dropped briefly today to £36-odd before going back up. Does this mean I will pay £36? I never usually pre-order stuff so I don’t know.

Thanks
John

Yes, you will pay £36 – or even less in the unlikely event that the price drops even lower between now and the release date.

Jeez, that didn’t last long did it? Shame. Price seems to be yo-yoing a bit as it is now (4.27pm UK time) £51.99. Fingers crossed that it plummets again.

Phil Wilson

as at 4.15pm (UK time) 18th Nov, this deal seems to have ended, as has the Simon and Garfunkel one (now back up to £60.99).

Charles Hodgson

Good news! Pre-ordered this waaay back when the price was £50 – and I thought that was good value!
(Now, how long before (if?) “The Complete Basement Tapes” – also a 6CD & Book set – comes down to a reasonable price from the frankly shocking £100+? If everyone had waited, dontcha think the price would already have come down? Maybe we could organise a “no pre-order” campaign the next time Sony/CBS try to pull something like that, just to worry them and see how they respond?)

Ron

Put what price you will on the music and how much you are prepared to spend but the photograph book is not particularly illuminating – mostly outdoor shots of Bob and The Band or pics of tape reels and various record sleeves.

The text in the other book was minimal and took me 15 mins to read in full and while it had some nice facts about the background of the tapes, there was nothing there I could not have found online, same with the photos.

Not worth more than £40-£50 in my estimation as a package based on what is there, but who knows how and why these things are priced so differently. Artist name? Materials? Blind greed? A punt?
