SimpleMinds_VinylBox_3D

As well as a new Once Upon A Time super deluxe edition box set, Universal Music will issue another Simple Minds collection this autumn in the shape of this seven-LP limited edition vinyl box The Vinyl Collection 79-84.

This collects the band’s first seven albums – Life In A Day, Real To Real CacophonyEmpires and Dance, Sons and Fascination, Sister Feelings Call, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) and Sparkle In The Rain.

All of these albums have been remastered at Abbey Road and are pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl. Since this set ends at 1984 it doesn’t include Once Upon A Time, but that is being released separately on vinyl along with the new super deluxe edition box set of that album.

The Vinyl Collection 79-84 will be released on 30 October 2015.

Finally got around to downloading the mp3 files using the code that came in the box from Universal. Naturally the code didn’t work and I had to email support for help. After a few days a new code was issued and I downloaded the zip folder. I now can’t unzip the folder and extract the albums to my computer. What a fucking farce. I’m sure illegally downloaded torrents are much easier to navigate.

For anyone interested,it’s deal of the day on Pop Matters at £72.99.

This is a veritable dream come true. My favourite Simple Minds era. Love Song, I Travel, Theme For Great Cities…I’ve preordered and await with anticipation. I am so pleased to see this.

Where’s the Gold/Purple New Gold Dream and Solid White Sparkle In The Rain?

This is just a rip-off release. Nothing great and different for such a high price.

Better off finding originals.

Thanks Paul. Do you when these were remastered? It’s just the listing which has been on Amazon Italy for some time mentions they are from the 2002 remasters. I’ve been collecting since 1979 so will buy them anyway and already preordered on Amazon UK some time back.

This looks lovely! I am not at all excited by the “Once Upon A Time” deluxe six-disc box set reissue, but this is something I could waste my money on. The thing that gets me is the pricing of these box sets is ludicrous. 7 LP’s for £103/$234 (not even sure how Amazon does these prices)! I note that it is an absolutely reasonable €127 in Italy by comparison.

The best Simple Minds period.
Luckily I still have my vinyl originals (including the original Zoom label pressings).
