NewsSoundgarden / Superunknown five-disc super deluxe edition
Soundgarden‘s 1994 album Superunknown will be reissued in June as a lavish super deluxe edition box set.
The grammy-winning record is remastered and becomes part of a five-disc package that takes in b-sides, demos, and rehearsals. The fifth disc is a blu-ray which offers up a hi-res 5.1 surround mix and hi-res stereo audio.
The discs reside in a 8.5” x 12” hardback book (approx. 70 pages) complete with lenticular cover. Lengthy liner notes are provided by Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke.
Other formats will include double vinyl LP, a two-CD deluxe and the making-up-the-numbers one-disc remaster.
Superunknown is reissued on 2 June 2014.

This is a Super deluxe box set. They’re NOT meant to be affordable to everyone. They’re targeted at die-hard fans and exclusivity seekers. For those who can not afford this or don’t want anything fancy, there is a simple much cheaper Deluxe edition.
My only wish is that they released those 4 CDs as lossless digital downloads, because even if I can financly afford the box set, I am not a fan of big fancy box sets.
I think the price is reasonable love this album I will be getting the Super Deluxe Box of Superunknown!!

I love this Soundgarden LP as much as I love the band, but jeez why so expensive? How much studio time did it take to prepare these 20+ year old demos & rehearsals? Gimme a break.
Do we have any idea who mixed the 5.1? Please let this be released separately.
I didn’t see what the 2 disc set will cost in America, but my nephew borrowed my CD a couple of years ago, and I never got it back. So, I’m likely to fork it over.
Interesting that (according to Amazon US) the second disc of the 2-disc version offers a ‘best-of’ of the three bonus discs from the super deluxe version. Seems like a good alternative to the very highly-priced 5-disc version.
Something for the millionaires amongst us. Nearly 100 euros? I can buy around 7 other CDs on my wish list with this money. No thanks even if I like soundgarden.
