The Eagles / Selected Works 1972-1999 / four-CD box set
It seems that the appeal of a simple 12-track greatest hits album has long since waned. Record labels these days are offering more for less. Rhino’s format of choice in the lead up to Christmas 2013, is the 4CD set, compacted into a ‘fatbox’ CD package with a slipcase. They are releasing the Simply Red Songbook collection in exactly this format and here they do the same for The Eagles.
Selected Works 1972-1999 is actually a repackage of a four disc box from 2000. The first three discs are themed: The Early Years, The Ballads and The Fast Lane with the final CD capturing live performances from New Year’s Eve 1999 (A Night To Remember).
As with other reissued sets (Rod Stewart’s Storyteller, or Fleetwood Mac’s 25 Years: The Chain) Selected Works offers jaw-dropping value at little over £10 at the time of writing on Amazon UK. This surely all but guarantees its place in Dad’s stocking on 25 December this year.

The live CD is fantastic – great versions of Victim of Love, Ol’ 55 and Those Shoes. The reconfiguration of Best of My Love is terrific too!!
On The Border is a very underrated song – glad that it’s on here.
It’s nearly impossible to find well-informed people on this subject,
however, you seem like you know what you’re talking about!
Thanks
It’s going to be finish of mine day, except before finish I am reading this wonderful piece of writing

I quite like reading through an article that
will make men and women think. Also, many thanks for allowing me to comment!
With the exception of some filler tracks, nothing special here with maybe the concert. But the concert is short [does it hit 60 minutes]? Never would of bought the original box set when it was priced at some ridiculous price of $80 but at under $30 it is barely worth it to get the concert.
Not sure what the point of this is. The full-album box set that came out this year is $32 on Amazon US. There are plenty of good songs that didn’t appear on this four-disc set, one disc of which doesn’t count since it’s a boring live show made long after the band’s peak. Really you’re buying a three-disc greatest hits. Just get the albums; they’re dirt-cheap now.
Amazing to my surprise i have the “original” box set, judging by the track listing, there are no extras, or any suggestion of remastering/remixing.
Judging by the 2013 version, and with the recent “Eagles” studio albums
1972-1979 which one would you chose? With the above it’s a very good package and a 28 page “History Of The Eagles”, and i have no doubt with the 6cd box set it would be plain packaging and no liner notes, with so many best of’s which is the “best” one to “select”?
