The Jesus and Mary Chain / Live at Barrowlands deluxe set

jamc_live

The Jesus and Mary Chain‘s homecoming gig at Barrowlands last November, where they played their now 30-year old debut LP Psychocandy in full, is to be celebrated in a special deluxe box set.

Live at Barrowlands will contain a 180g black vinyl of the Pyschocandy performance (previously issued on red vinyl for Record Store Day 2015) and a ten-inch vinyl record featuring the ‘prequel’ set from the same evening, which included various singles and fan favourites.

The included 40-page hardback book features a interview with the band (and Alan McGee) as well as unseen photography from behind the scenes. The deluxe package also comes with a CD of the entire performance (which is also being issued separately).

This Live at Barrowlands deluxe set will be out on 31 July 2015. It can be pre-ordered via the official Jesus and Mary Chain online store or Amazon UK. The former is £10 cheaper at the time of writing and if you’re amongst the first 300 to order you get a signed setlist poster!

Not sure if anyone reads the old comments threads, but TNT have just been! The deluxe set is (imho) very nicely produced; solid, matt, booklet style 12″ packaging containing a good balance of text and images on thick stock paper, with the (black) 10″ and 12″ vinyl in separate card sleeves bound into the hard covers, with the CD in a slot on the inside back cover. To confirm, the CD with this deluxe set does indeed contain both the full Psychocandy album and the prequel set. Finally, the setlist is signed by both Jim and William Reid (the former ‘Jim Reid x’ the latter simply ‘William’) clearly in black Sharpie; the set list print is thick stock card. I think it is also worth commenting that MyPlay Direct had packaged the set ‘very’ well (the shrink-wrapped set enclosed in a foam enclosure inside a sealed cardboard box, which was then in a larger cardboard box with the space filled with both another [empty] box and brown paper) – well done to them for treating a deluxe set appropriately in terms of safety in transit!

I too am really impressed with the boxset and especially pleased with the a signed print / setlist thing.

However my book (advertsised as being 40 pages? I think) has more pages than that! However it also repears the photo / text pages has 12 repeated pages until the final crowd shot and credits page – is this just mine or is this a common fault?

thegreatelephant

can someone confirm- was the signed setlist inside the sealed item? because there is no indication to know this without breaking the seal so to speak. when bought it was indicated i had bought a signed one. thanks

Philip

Yes, but comments further up talk about a CD only release, which I assumed to be of the full show, not just the second set…..

Philip

So a CD of ther Psychocandy portion out this week :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Psychocandy-Live-Jesus-Mary-Chain/dp/B00ZYFGH12/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1438595309&sr=1-1

………………….but do we also expect the full show on CD to still be coming out later this year???

Neil Wilkes

Yes, but £50 plus shipping to get a load of unwanted vinyl is a tad steep. That makes it a very expensive live show.

Elliot

Thanks Michel and Paul, I did see that in the article but was hoping for a pre-order link, that’s all.

Alex

While I enjoyed the reissued vinyl boxset alot, Im not sure if I really need this release at all. If I had been there on gig then, I would have probably bought this one.

eric slangen

sold out

Pointless money-grabbing release. As bad as Weller or Oasis. Especially nice move considering the RSD release. How about something new at long last? This track “Kennedy” by William suggests it could be ace.

Elliot

Is there or will there be a link to a CD only version? I’m not after the vinyl and haven’t got much space as it is with the deluxe box sets I have.

Michel

@Elliot: from the NME Website: “A CD-only release is planned for later in the year.”

thegreatelephant

tremendous set, ordered – still after a red RSD LP also but silly money.

graeme ewan

cheers “GHB”. That explains the discrepancy. Aint that grand for a UK band when I am ordering from the UK?!!! Jesus God…… rip aff

Bridge

$117 CAN + $40 shipping?! Yikes! $40!!!!?

graeme ewan

erm guys, I have just got my e-receipt from my order and it shows “Item Price:
£39.99
Quantity:
1
Subtotal:
£39.99”

well well, thats a “score” then eh?

GHB

plus VAT I’m afraid (which is on the unit price and the shipping by the looks of my e-receipt). Total £55.92 …….

BRENEZ Alain

Wonder why they released this at £25 for RSD if it’s to release it again as a box set? I purchased the LP (on black vinyl) during RSD; should I now buy it again to have the box set?

graeme ewan

oh duh, the link is for “signed setlist”!! what a spanner I am. ok, will update if order goes a’ ‘rang then. ( fellow Scots will ken whit am on aboot!) Thanks for the heads up.

graeme ewan

ordered. i will contact site and update when i know or am told if in first 300.

graeme ewan

Any way to tell if you are in the first “300”?

GHB

There seem to be two links on the myplaydirect website, both for the deluxe edition at £49.99 but one says “+ signed setlist”. So, assume (?) once these are all gone this option will disappear …. just ordered mine and the e-mail confirmation receipt says “+ Signed Set List” so fingers crossed.

They were excellent in Bristol, so really looking forward to this box set …. plus, that’s the other half’s Christmas pressie sorted as well!

Thanks for the heads up Chris – much appreciated.

Ross

Yes. Just yes. Shame it’s not also on red vinyl but no matter. Having attended one of the recent Psychocandy gigs, I can safely say that this is a must have as the band were on incendiary form the night I went, and I’ve been told the Barrowlands gig was even better.
