The National / I Am Easy To Find

New album • 3LP deluxe coloured vinyl • 2LP clear vinyl • Short film

The National will release a new album I Am Easy To Find in May.

The band’s eighth studio album was recorded at Long Pond, Hudson Valley, NY with various other sessions around the world. It features vocal contributions from Sharon Van Etten, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Lisa Hannigan, Mina Tindle, Gail Ann Dorsey and more.

I Am Easy To Find is also being released as a companion short film (with the same name), which is directed by  Mike Mills. The film runs for 24 minutes and features music by The National (naturally). It stars Alicia Vikander. The album itself is a double and runs for 68 minutes.

According to Mills the two projects “share music and words and DNA and impulses and a vision about what it means to be human in 2019, but don’t necessarily need one another. The movie was composed like a piece of music; the music was assembled like a film, by a film director. The frontman and natural focal point was deliberately and dramatically sidestaged in favour of a variety of female voices, nearly all of whom have long been in the group’s orbit. It is unlike anything either artist has ever attempted and also totally in line with how they’ve created for much of their careers.”

I Am Easy To Find is available in various formats. There is a 2LP CLEAR vinyl edition which is exclusive to independent record stores. This is a limited edition which will be pressed only once.

Limited edition 3LP coloured deluxe vinyl

A 3LP deluxe vinyl edition (again, a one-pressing limited edition) comes on 140g opaque red / yellow / grey vinyl. The first two records in this set are the album, as per the 2LP edition, but the third record features 22 minutes of music from the original film score of I Am Easy To Find. This is EXCLUSIVE to this format. That’s on side five, with the sixth side featuring an etching. This version comes in a tri-fold sleeve with a 24-page booklet and it comes in an outer plastic sleeve.

Finally, there is a standard 2LP black vinyl and the CD edition. All variants are available to pre-order from the SDE shop using this link or the buttons below. I Am Easy To Find is released on 17 May 2019.

Just got my copy. Is anyone else having play issues with side B of the first record in the three disc set? All the other records play fine.

Paddy

the 3xLP download code is for album (disc 1/2) only. does not include film score (disc 3/side a) download.

Thanks Paul.

I know SDE is an indie store and I appreciate your hard work, so I don’t begrudge you any success with your store. Or the website for that matter, which I have enjoyed for years now.

I just get fed up with postage charges on pre-orders from record companies.
So will wait and see if my local record store gets some when it’s released.

DaveM

Great news, CD pre-ordered.

Record companies are really pushing to find the maximum price for vinyl that fans will bear aren’t they? Prices are going up and up. It’s just the ’70’s again with high inflation. Just look at the prices for RSD 19 and now the £30 barrier is being broken for some double vinyl releases. And why do they charge several pounds more for the colour vinyl variant? Surely it doesn’t cost any more than black vinyl to manufacture? They use the same LP sleeves and just stick a different barcode sticker on. Not having a go at you here Paul for your prices. You can only reflect the wholesale price.

There’s also a red/blue splatter vinyl variant available exclusively to members of the National’s (subscription-based) fan club, Cherry Tree.

Trey

Thanks for mentioning this, I have a Cherry Tree membership but didn’t catch on to the splatter variant. Just ordered a copy.

Rich459

Is the splatter variant 180G?

Jim

I think the picture for the clear LP might actually be the etching on side 6 of the deluxe.

Also, do you know if the vinyl versions come with downloads? I can’t see that mentioned on any site, so I’d have to assume not. Still, that 3LP does look nice.

Dougie

Placed my order last night for the 3 disc version so have emailed the 4AD store regarding download codes (which were issued with the last album – and were higher res to CD level if my memory serves).

Dougie

From 4AD: “To my knowledge, this does come with a download code.”

80% likely then ;p

colm47

Will the 3LP be available from indie stores?

Jim

Thanks, both.

Richard

Does that mean we can Q outside yours on RSD 2019 ??
