A new vinyl box set that gathers together Fleetwood Mac‘s output from 1969 to 1972 will be issued on 19 August 2013.

The set starts with the band’s third album (their first for Warners) Then Play On (1969) and contains three further records: Kiln House (1970), Future Games (1971) and Bare Trees (1972). A bonus seven-inch replica of 1969 single Oh Well – Pt. 1 is also included.

Although these aren’t heavyweight pressings (140g), Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut the lacquers for all four albums and the packaging is promised to replicate the originals, including gatefolds for Then Play On and Kiln House. The five records are housed in an attractive looking black slip-case.

An expanded CD reissue of the Then Play On album will be issued on the same date, featuring four bonus tracks: parts one and two of Oh Well, The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown) and World In Harmony, which is available on CD for the first time

THEN PLAY ON £6.44 at Amazon, but only £4.99 at Sainsburys. Time for prices to changeI now, but I know where I’m ordering from!!!

The outtakes from Then Play On have already been released back in 1998 on a different label as The Vaudeville Years 1968-1970. Pricey to buy but that collection has the tracks that should be on the Then play On reissue.

Nice to see that the mid period Mac is getting a bit of an outing, but shame they did not include the single of Dragonfly/The Purple Dancer as well. A bit of a disappointment as well with the Then Play on CD. That is a great album but they could have included more than just four bonus tracks. There were so many track Mac recorded at the period that they could have at least thrown a second disc of demos and live stuff. A missed opportunity in my opinion.

The CD reissue of “Then Play On” apparently finally comprises the full 14 tracks from the original UK issue. (The previous CD version from Warners was the heavily edited US tracklisting – and it was taken from a crackly vinyl disc!!)
