NewsJethro Tull / A Passion Play: An Extended Performance deluxe set
Jethro Tull’s 1973 album A Passion Play will be reissued as a four-disc anniversary deluxe set in June.
The 1973 follow-up to Thick As A Brick has been given a new stereo mix by Steven Wilson, as well as being mixed for 5.1 surround sound. Not only that, the earlier abandoned sessions that the band recorded in Chateau d’Herouville in France, get the same treatment – new stereo mixes and 5.1 surround mixes!
The 2CD+2DVD set offers the stereo mixes in hi-res (on the DVDs) while the surround sound options include DTS and Dolby 5.1. A new 2LP vinyl version with the new stereo mix is also being released.

I am wondering though how CD’s 1 and 2 sound (the stereo mixes), compared to the older releases.
I already own the “regular” a passion play CD and Nightcap (wich features 13 tracks of The Chateau D’Herouville Sessions).
Any ideas on that?

Jack, i know how you feel, the deluxe edition has been slightly delayed. I have also noticed a couple of tracks were actually on the “Nightcap” the unreleased masters in 1993 but to me the package is still worth it, this will be huge,

I won’t go so far as to say “ordered” (besides, the price invariably fluctuates like mad the first week or so after release), but this is a definitely must-buy if only to hear the rehearsal tapes properly cleaned up. They were released as part of the Nightcap package, but the sound always came off very… Put it this way, you could tell they left those sessions in a hurry.
Having the whole kit cleaned up and packed together will be a pleasure and a half! Count me in!

Once again this will be huge, although it may not be their most popular album, when it all began with the massive box set of “Aqualung” followed by box set of “Thick As A Brick” then T.A.A.B.2, the latest from Ian Anderson 2disc/4disc edition and now the next few weeks A.P.P, it cannot
get any better than this!! I am a huge fan, and although it’s only early “daze” could “War Child” be next? Also really enjoying Yes’s Close To The Edge and “The Yes Album” just received in all it’s glory. Great stuff,

Please could everyone just calm down and desist with comments criticising others. Personally, I don’t have a problem with someone leaving a comment saying that they’ve ordered something. Even if others don’t find that it contributes much to the ‘debate’, is it really worth creating your own comment to criticise another comment you don’t like? Not a bad price right now on Amazon UK: £17.83. Looks like the package is similar to the TAAB remaster.
Looking forward to this. I like the 3 tracks (audition, no rehearsal, scenario) that were featured on my 3cd box set of 20 years of jethro Tull very much so hearing it as it was meant to be will be great and the whole lot in 5.1 too! Fantastic. Thanks Mr Wilson. I wish you could get Aqualung in 5.1 without having to get the expensive super size box set though… please do a release of that the same as TAAB.

Very reasonably priced and hopefully it will be packaged along the lines of the recent Thick As A Brick set.
Minimal non-essential memorabilia and various audio options with detailed liner notes is the best way, in my opinion.
Should lead to a re-examination of this “lost” Tull classic. Will make a very interesting package.
More Steve Wilson remixing Tull. What’s not to love? Cool that the Chateau tapes are going to be in 5.1 also.
